Hasselblad 503CWD + A12: Loading and Unloading 120 Film
Load, align, and remove 120 film in the A12 film back according to the Hasselblad 503CWD manual; the steps are limited to this camera/body and back combination and are not applicable to other medium format cameras.
Scope of Application: Hasselblad 503CWD and A12 Backs
The A12 is a 120 format film back, with the manual mapping it to a 6×6 cm frame. This guide only covers the A12 film loading process in the 503CWD manual; for steps for Rolleiflex, Mamiya, Pentax, and other Hasselblad backs, refer to their respective manuals. [HB-A12-01]
Insert the Dark Slide Before Loading Film on the Back
The manual allows loading film with the back attached to the camera or removed; if removing the back, first insert the dark slide before pulling out the film insert. When inserting, position the dark slide with its flat surface facing backward as shown in the diagram to facilitate removing the insert. [HB-A12-02]
Load the 120 Film and Secure the Backing Paper
Place the empty take-up spool and the new film into the insert according to the orientation shown in the manual, and remove the external paper seal from the new film. Open the clip, pull out about 8–10 cm of backing paper, slide the edge under the clip, and insert the paper tab into the spool slot. For different film packaging, insert structures, or back models, refer to the corresponding manual. [HB-A12-03, HB-A12-04]
Align the Mark and Set the Counter to Frame 1
Turn the take-up spool knob clockwise until the backing paper arrow aligns with the triangle mark on the clip; do not pass the mark. The manual provides a separate rectangular mark for ILFORD black-and-white film. After reinserting and locking the insert, rotate the film winding crank clockwise about ten turns until it stops, then turn in reverse and stow the crank, confirming that the counter window shows 1. [HB-A12-05, HB-A12-06]
Remove the Film After Shooting
After exposing the last frame and advancing the film, wind the film clockwise until you feel the film leave the supply spool; then pull out the insert and remove the exposed film. Do not apply this step to other backs or models. [HB-A12-07]
